Keyword research is important but it can sometimes feel overwhelming.....Where to start???
In this article I’m going to reveal the top 5 FREE keyword tools that you can start using right away.
No matter what niche your website occupies, these tools will help you find the right keywords and fast track your SEO efforts. So let’s get to it!
1.Google keyword planner
You’ve probably already heard of the Google Keyword Planner, you may even have used it. As the most popular keyword tool on the market, the keyword planner is a great place to start your keyword research. With the keyword planner you can search for individual keywords or enter multiple keywords to search for. You can download your keyword list as a CSV for easy access. Google keyword planner is the best place to start your keyword research, in my opinion. You’ll get the most comprehensive list of keyword suggestions as well as a whole host of additional data like monthly search volume and related keywords.
2. Google Search
While Google search might not be an actual keyword tool, per say, it is definitely still a powerful research tool that can’t be ignored. What makes Google search so powerful is that it provides you with real-time data of what web users are searching for, how they are searching for it, and how many searches are coming in. If you add an asterisk at the end of a search query, Google will populate the query with the most searched terms. By using the asterisk you can gain valuable information about the most searched terms relating your niche.
3. Wikipedia
Not many utilize Wikipedia for it’s keywords, but I personally believe that it is one of the most undervalued resources for contextual keywords, and finding keywords that might slip through the Google Keyword Planner. Simply search for a subject relating to your niche and you will find tons of keywords relating to your niche. Wikipedia is a great resource to use if you know your niche, but are having trouble putting together a list of viable keywords.
4. Google Suggestions
Whenever you search for anything on Google, at the bottom of the screen you will find two rows of related keywords. These are Google suggestions. Searching for keywords relating to your niche on Google and then creating a list based on the suggestions is perhaps one of the simplest ways to put together a keyword list quickly and for free. Google suggestions are based on other people’s searches so they are always worth looking into.
5. Moz’s Keyword Explorer
Moz’s keyword explorer is a bit like Google Keyword Planner but with extra features. Thinks like:
Opportunity: Relative CTR of the organic results on a SERP
Importance: How critical the keyword is to your campaign
Potential: A combination of all keyword metrics to help you prioritize
It comes with a nice, easy to understand interface that makes it easy to track your keywords and monitor their performance in real time.
